A little bit about me...
I am an entry level UX Designer excited to get more hands on experience in the field. I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Washington (Seattle) studying Human Centered Design Engineering. I am currently looking for an internship for the 2017-2018 school year or summer of 2018.
I’m currently working a part time sales job at a home/furniture store called Crate & Barrel. From this job, I’ve learned a lot about customer service and the dynamics that form between different job types. I'm also interning at a nonprofit organization called Plus One Foundation that focuses on providing grants to people with neurological disorders. In this internship, I focus on website design and management.
The courses I’ve taken so far (at UW) have taught me new skills regarding coding, design, and professional writing. Previous classes I have taken are completely different from each other, but one thing they usually have in common is that they emphasize “knowing the audience/user”.
My thoughts on design...
To me, Human Centered Design Engineering is about understanding and building a product from a user’s point of view. In our field, the foundations of a product start with the wants and needs of the user. We conduct research via interviews and usability tests, develop personas to envision broader user spectrums, and iterate our design concepts to create a more cohesive product.
I believe that our society can be greatly impacted by the technology and products we create. In doing so, it is important to remember what legacy our tech leaves behind, because oftentimes, technology and interfaces can have impacts long after the designers are gone.
